Our consumer survey makes headlines
Thursday, 26 June 2025

The results of our exciting research into what Australians know about chronic wounds are now live. This exclusive report by 7 News tells the story of Isabella Fitzgibbon, who cared for her grandmother Shirley in her final months with mouth cancer, and found herself fighting a secondary battle with pressure injuries.

It's a great illustration of the challenges ordinary Australians face in finding the right diagnosis and treatment at the right time. Watch it below.

What does Australia know about chronic wounds?

As Australia's national peak body for chronic wounds, we investigated what consumers know and think about wound care – and, given prevention and early intervention could drastically reduce suffering and improve healing – the results were sobering.

  • Half of respondents did not identify a reoccurring wound as chronic
  • Almost 20% would not seek professional help with a wound due to expense
  • Over a third felt they could manage the wound themselves.
