A vital blueprint for improving wound care for 450,000 Australians living with chronic wounds was launched today in Canberra.

Professor Fiona Wood AO – renowned surgeon and innovator and Wound Awareness Week Ambassador – delivered a National Press Club address on the urgent need for wound care reform to an audience of leading researchers, clinicians, policymakers and industry partners today. In her address she presented the five essential changes that will:

  • Stop wounds from becoming chronic, preventing thousands from entering the health system each year
  • Empower Australians to understand the wound warning signs and where they can seek help
  • Upskill Australia's health and aged care workforce to prevent and heal chronic wounds
